As mentioned in one of our recent blog posts, Havelwelle a 14-meter wide unitstandingwave, is set to become our first indoor UNIT Surf Pool, located in Potsdam, Germany. Two weeks ago, we were in Potsdam, to install the wave pool. Since this is an indoor wave, we had to wait until the building’s construction reached a critical stage to install our surf pool components.
Behind the Scenes: The Installation Process
Since the surf pool will be integrated into an artificial water body, the first day was dedicated to installing the substructure for the wave elements.
On Day 2, work began early with the delivery of the first surf pool parts. Thanks to UNIT Surf Pool’s modular design, the 14-meter wave pool is made up of seven individual sections. Due to the impressive 21-meter length, each part was delivered separately on a large truck.
A crane was used to move the parts from the trucks to the assembly area. There each component was inspected for quality and fitted with additional parts. Afterward, the parts were craned and carefully positioned onto the subconstruction of the artificial wave machine, ensuring everything was placed accurately.
The vision behind
The vision behind Havelwelle is to bring surfing to Potsdam and to make the sport accessible to a wider audience. Central to their mission is the development of youth sports and allowing athletes to develop further. However, Ginette and Enrico Rhauda’s plan extends beyond the surf pool itself. They envision Havelwelle as a multifaceted destination, integrating food and beverage as well as tiny houses to cultivate a unique community atmosphere. This holistic approach is designed to create a space where people can come together. A place not only for surfing but to engage in a shared experience.

Final Steps: Completing the Wave Installation
The final components for the surf pool were delivered on the following days, marking the final phase of the installation process. The procedure followed was consistent with the earlier stages: Each part was carefully unloaded from the trucks and transported to the designated assembly area. The parts underwent a quality inspection, and additional components were installed to complete each unit.
This process, which was repeated for each delivery, ensured that every part was precisely prepared and ready for placement. By maintaining such careful attention to detail throughout the process, the team ensured the surf pool was built to the highest specifications.
A highlight during the build-up occurred on the last day when the final part was put into place. There was a lot of precision required for this step. The team was happy when everything came together smoothly. With no unexpected issues, the installation process could mark a successful and precise completion.
What’s next?
Early next year, the control room will be set up. With every phase, the excitement rises to see our first indoor UNIT surf pool up and running!
